This thread is deticated solely to the building of my fiero. Almost every step of my build will be detailed into this thread



Specs
1987 Pontiac Fiero GT

2.8l V6 with Getrag 5 Speed transmission

Options.
PM, PW, PD, sunroof, Rear window defroster, electronic trunk opener,

Added Options.
Leather Interior, Heated mirrors, Speekers in headrests, Carbonfiber interior trim pieces,

Body mods,
Fiero wearhouse 355 ferrari front end, V8 Archie intergrated rocker pannels, Kris munson Style flush mount headlights,
Pisa corp taillights with my own modded lights, Oldsmobel Aurora heated/powered mirrors, 17inch R-7 rims from moteggie,

Future mods.
Hell fire red paint job, Some kind of engine swap (SBC, 3800SC, Northstar, 3400pushrod turbo, 3400 DOHC,) Few mods to interior.



The car started out as a fully loaded 1987 Fiero GT




The car did not come with the stock taillights so I installed my taillights off my old car.

After the taillights the car sat stock for a few weeks than a buddy of mine wanted to buy my stock side skirts so i sold them to him and added The V8 archie rockers.

Also the interior was pretty bad so it also got replaced

Next the front bumper was sold off the car so I replaced it with the ferrari 355 front end. Along with the kris munson headlights.

Next came time to fix the rig job the PO did with an aftermarket gauge sending unit.

The metal wire leading out of that piece of plumbers pipe was in place of the fan switch, The fan switch is the switch that turns on the fan when the engine temp starts to get to high. The fans job is to cool off the collent in the radiator. The collent relies a lot on the fan due to the radiator is in the front of the car where as the engine is in the back.


That wire leads to this which dosent even work




Long story short on the fix on this as i dont have pics. Pepeboys was able to save it. I thought for sure there was going to be problems but they got it to work.

Next the car got a wing (we call this wing the wing of death because it flew off the car one day it has been replaced)

The next mod came te aurora mirrors. I wanted somthing a little more updates because the triangle mirrors would have killed the look i was going for

Next at a fiero show i went to i was able to get a set of nice leather seat covers fitted for the fiero. Got them for $50 they looke pretty nice in the car but in time i will be replacing them with MR mikes seats

After the seats i wanted to do somthing with the gauges so i picked these up



I had been getting sick of the corvette lenses on the car because they were very high profile on the car so i wantes somthing a little cleaner. I found my solution at napa.

After that came the drunk as hell paintjob.

Than i had gotten a set of rims off my friend and put them on my car

I had remembered in my old car everyone used to complaine about how loud the speekers in the head roests of my seats were so this time when i hooked them up i hooked them up with a sepret volume controll from the radio.


Part of my centerconsole skeleton had to be cut out to fit this mod.

I finaly got my radio to sit in right. Had to butcher up part of my center console skeleton again but got it in along with a 1984 fiero climate controll system with black switches.

Great idea Rick! I'll start a "new section" dedicated to people building their cars so they can post pics & updates. Each member will be able to create their own thread.

Well today out of my own boredum i decided to butcher up one of my hvac controll units to try this out.
This is easyist with an 84 hvac controll unit.

Sorry for the pic quality my camera isant to good at taking dark shots.

1st. I peeled the face off the unit.
2nd. (this is the part that really tested my patinces) You have to scrape out the orange filters to the face itself but only where the light shines through.

3rd. You have to use a dremmel and a drill to strip out all the orange paint on the inside of the hole where the backlight goes into

4th (this required venturing into the rice area of your local auto parts store) And grab whatever color you chose to use LED light.
5th. Cut the wires to the light socket on your Hvac controll peice but leave a l lot on the mother board on the Hvac controll unit.
6th Drill out the connector that holds the bulb into the HVAC unit and make it so it can hold the LED light

7th. Tap the wires to the LED into the wires on the mother board and see if it lights up. (i tapped mine into my radio power wires as i am having trouble with my backlight system)
8th. Place the LED into the hole in the Hvac unit and glue the face back on
9th. Install it and see how it works
(As an added bonus even the lights on the buttons light up blue to )

Well last night i took my car out for a ride and dident quite like the job i did on the hvac controll. It showed up blue and purple and I dident like it to much.

So today at attempt #2 while the lacquer thinner was contolling me i decided to butcher up my 1st major failure at the hvac unit (so far I have used 2 faces) and try this. I think it looks a lot better during the day and night. Only problem is you have to remember what all the buttons do but I remember them like a scince.

On a more serious note, u should paint ur car, the color blue like ur gauges! Sonic Blue, like the 350Z!

I don't think that color would do that car justice.

I would get the back part of the tail lights painted b/c it would look akward if you painted the car & kept them black.

I may be doing somthing totaly diffrent with the housing to them. Have to see if it can be done first.

Well my GT just got a new garage buddy today. Not much has been done with the 87 Just been drivin it.

This car has not had much done to it latley. more or less hasent been drivin in a while since i got my firebird back. Once im down parting out the other 86 it will join the green lantern and await inside the garage for the paintjob the green lantern just screwed it out of.

Havent been doing much with the 87 lateley..... Took it out for a drive today and still runs like a top.

The 87 has joined the green lantern in the garage. It hasent really been garaged queened really but its more or less going to chill in the garage for a while plus its inspection and regestration is up.

Today the 87 got the stock brushed alumnium bezzels put back into it as well as a decklid recall weather strip.
I also put the headlight lenses back in.

Car is going in for paint pretty soon. Its going to be a macco job just for a little while till i can get a good paint job.

Maaco doesnt do a bad job. They painted my Camaro when I had it, but I guess it helped that my old man knew the Owner. They do a pretty good job.

The fiero is in for paint. Shouls be done next week.

Got my plenum's back from LPC today and they look nice

This is a black with a very intense red flake in it. for my 87.

The red one looks better! U need to clean the engine bays up! They look as as old as the car, lol!

Got the ICM problem tied down. It will be at the sonic meet on sunday and maby the sunday night meet.
